We provide medical case management to pregnant women and children who
are currently indigent, and to children who are wards of the State of Illinois.
We provide case management services to persons in nursing
home facilities who have both medical and emotional needs.
We provide case management services to individuals in the Chicago metropolitan area whose
primary need is an alternative place to live. Many of these recipients have multiple needs including nursing, educational, job
training, and mental health therapies.
We provide case management services to families
receiving cash subsidies to maintain their children in a natural home environment
rather than extended care.
CAU operates as a licensed Maternal/Child Health organization in a managed care
environment.
CAU has had contracts with the
Illinois Departments of Human Services and Public Health.
CAU works to meet the needs of Chicago HMO, Illinois Masonic HMO, the Regional
Transit Authority, and American Health Care Providers.
CAU has a history of successful collaboration with teaching institutions such as the
University of Illinois, the University of Chicago, and Loyola University. We are an
approved site for interns pursuing licensure in the field of Social Work.

Alternatives’ strength is in our staff. Collectively we have a culturally diverse,
professionally seasoned, and extremely stable work force.
CAU recruits and trains experienced and qualified professionals holding degrees in the
fields of Social Work, Education, Psychology, Counseling, Special Education,
Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Counseling, Addictionology, Women’s Studies, Nursing,
and Criminal Justice.
CAU’s staff interface with state agencies and a wide variety of organizations and
vendors. We work with correctional centers, private and public residential facilities for
the disabled, hospitals, hospices, retirement centers and nursing homes, schools, crisis
intervention teams, youth groups, vocational training centers, and private and public
health agencies. Among our many qualifications is a commitment to cultural diversity: as
an agency we speak ten languages.
CAU’s management staff has worked as a team for more than ten years together, with an
average of 20 years of experience. Our 52 casemanagers have an average of eleven years of
experience, with an average of seven years at CAU.
CAU’s staff include licensed social workers, certified rehabilitation
counselors, licensed clinical psychologists, and a Doctor of Nursing Services.
CAU has a Crisis Casemanagement team on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
